Barco Introduces Second Generation of 4K Surgical Displays at Trade Fair

Barco (Kortrijk, Belgium) introduced its second generation of 4K surgical displays and the Nexxis video integration system at MEDICA 2018, the world’s largest medical trade fair that was held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from November 12-15, 2018.

Over 5,000 exhibitors from almost 70 countries attended the show, which also focused on the workflow of patient treatment with individual focal points including electromedicine, medical technology, laboratory technology, diagnostics, physiotherapy, orthopedic technology, commodities and consumables, information and communication technology, medical furniture and specialist furnishings for hospitals and practices.

Barco designs and develops visualization and collaboration solutions for a variety of selected professional markets, including healthcare. With the growing focus on balancing affordable care with better patient outcomes, today’s operating rooms (ORs) need to support efficient workflow and be ready to keep pace with future technology. Barco’s surgical displays and Nexxis video integration solution work seamlessly together to provide precise images to any integrated, hybrid or interventional OR.

At MEDICA 2018, Barco launched the MDSC-8427, a brand-new 27-inch surgical display that brings 4K images to the OR. The MDSC-8427 is the first surgical display from Barco that provides a double user interface for smooth control of screen and layout configurations. The touch screen at the front offers four dedicated shortcut buttons, which can be programmed to meet the personal preferences of surgical staff. The MDSC-8427 also features tactile navigation keys at the back to ensure perfect usability and user friendliness. Designed with the needs of biomedical staff in mind, they give access to more technical display configuration functions.

"The new MDSC-8427 is a first in our next generation of 4K displays for the operating room,” said Johan Stockman, Barco’s VP surgical imaging. “Careful consideration went into the new design. We wanted to create a display that combines surgical aesthetics with surgical precision. This new paradigm of display design shows how fine form can meet function in the operating room.”
